Matt Tipton admits it was a “simple decision” to join Ballymena United after meeting with manager Glenn Ferguson.

The striker has signed a one-year deal with the Sky Blues – one week after being released by Linfield.

Tipton revealed that a quick chat over a cup of tea with Ferguson convinced the striker to make the move to the Showgrounds.

“It was a very simple decision,” he said.

“Glenn and me had a cup of tea and a brief chat and I decided that I wanted to sign there and then.

“It was done in minutes, and despite other clubs being interested, I knew Ballymena was the club for me.”

Tipton– who scored 20 goals in 52 appearances for Linfield after joining from Portadown in the summer of 2012 – admits he is excited by the new challenge.

“Glenn believes in me and has told me he still sees me as a major player,” Tipton added.

“I’m 33 now, but I’m feeling great and I still have a lot to offer. So I can’t wait to get started.”
