The surname Whiteside is one of the most famous in Northern Ireland football history.

But young Coleraine striker Andrew Whiteside wasn’t even born when Norman Whiteside made his final appearance for the men in green.

Andy proved so handy for Declan Devine’s Northern Ireland team as he scored twice to help them sink Manchester United and secure the inaugural Dale Farm Milk Cup U-13 title.

Northern Ireland ran out 5-1 winners in Saturday night’s final at Coleraine Showgrounds while watching Irish FA Elite performance director Jim Magilton was impressed with the overall performance of the squad.

For young Whiteside, Coleraine Academy’s U-13 golden boot winner last season, it was a Roy of the Rovers night as he sparkled in the decider.

Christopher Conn and Ethan Galbraith also scored in a game that saw United take the lead through James Garner and concede an own goal later on.

On their way to the final Northern Ireland defeated Partick Thistle 8-0 and North Dublin Schools 2-1.
