Northern Ireland Under 17s fight back for draw

NORTHERN Ireland Under 17s proved their character as they came from behind to earn a draw against mini-tournament hosts Estonia on Tuesday.

Cliftonville’s Ross Lavery cancelled Frank Liivak’s opener for Estonia as the UEFA European Championship qualifier ended 1-1 in Tallinn.

Stephen Robinson’s side fell behind on 18 minutes when Liivak finished off a Svjatoslav Jakovlev free-kick.

Three minutes later Northern Ireland were back on level terms through Lavery.

The U17s complete their qualifying round campaign on Friday against group leaders England – 1-0 winners over Wales on Tuesday afternoon.

With the top two in the group going through to the Elite Round next spring Robinson’s side still have everything to play for.

Northern Ireland: Mitchell, Dummigan, Doherty, Harney, Donnelly, McDonagh, Mullan, McCawl, Lavery, McCallister, Gorman subs McIlhone (not used), George Gray (replaced Gorman 56), Martin (replaced Doherty 77), Doran (not used), Bradley (not used), Kennedy (not used), McDaid (replaced Mullan 52)
