Hot on the heels of Thursday’s demolition of Aberystwyth Town in the Europa League, Peter Hutton must bring Derry City down to earth for Sunday’s league test against Athlone Town (4pm).

The Brandywell boss is confident his players will not lose their focus against the League of Ireland Premier basement side – despite their Europa League heroics.

“We’re half way there in our quest to progress in the Europa League, so we can now park that for a few days and concentrate on the trip to Athlone Town who have been showing an improvement over recent games,” noted Hutton.

“They may be placed at the bottom of the table, but nothing can be taken for granted. They are battling hard for points and no team gets it easy at Lissywoollen, so we’ve got to prepare well.”

With team captain Cliff Byrne suspended for Sunday’s trip, Hutton may well opt to bring Shane McEleney back into the starting line-up or switch Aaron Barry into the centre of defence.

Philip Lowry and Stephen Dooley could make their league debuts.
