Ally McCoist insists Dean Shiels has a future at Rangers despite speculation linking the striker with a return to Hibernian.
McCoist has revealed that three clubs have made enquiries about Shiels – with Terry Butcher’s Hibs believed to be one of the frontrunners.
Rangers are preparing a £1m cost-cutting exercise to stem huge losses, and could consider offers for the 28-year-old.
“I’m not keen on anybody going anywhere,” McCoist said.
“I’ve obviously had a chat with Dean and told him the situation. I have to be honest with all my players.
“For me, however, the really pleasing thing is that Dean has indicated a desire to get back in the team and stay at the club .He hasn’t said he wants to leave, not at all.
“He wants to get his place back and from my point of view, that’s exactly what I want to hear.”
Shiels could make his first start since August alongside international teammate Andy Little in Saturday afternoon’s home game with East Fife.
Bilel Mohsni will return from suspension for Rangers, who will be without Arnold Peralta who serves a ban following his red card against Stenhousemuir last weekend.
Lewis MacLeod will face a late fitness test whilst Stevie Smith, David Templeton and Nicky Clark are all out injured.
