Charles Green is right to blast this Rangers side

MY BALL: Rangers Lee McCulloch holds off Annan Athletics Martin McNiff

MY BALL: Rangers Lee McCulloch holds off Annan Athletics Martin McNiff

At the end of a week when Charles Green controversially described the current Ibrox side as the worst in the club’s history events on Saturday conspired to suggest that the Rangers Chief Executive was spot on in his analysis.

The 1-2 defeat at the hands of Annan Athletic surely represents the nadir of the current campaign for Ally McCoist’s men – a dreadful ninety minutes in which the ‘Galabankies’ emerged as deserved winners.

Too many experienced players are frankly going through the motions for Rangers – men like Ian Black, Kyle Hutton and Lee Wallace who should be outstanding at this level have frankly been major disappointments.

Black in particular – ‘Man-of-the- Match’ in last season’s Scottish Cup Final – has scarcely kicked a ball all season and there are many who believe his midfield partnership with Hutton is simply not up to scratch.

As if defeat was not bad enough, Rangers also suffered the loss of Dean Shiels who was stretchered off in 35 minutes with a knee injury, substituted by Barrie McKay.

Shiels had been the one change from last week, coming in for the injured David Templeton –and the loss of both players’ imaginative thrust and creativity, as well as their goal sense, undoubtedly deprived Rangers of much of their forward flair and they lost the game.

And once again the boos rang out at the final whistle, marking Rangers’ first home League defeat of the season and probable their worst performance.
