Rangers Nicky Clark celebrates

Rangers overwhelmed Forfar Athletic 6-1 at Ibrox with Nicky Clark netting four to equal a 72-year-old club record of 19 successive victories in all competitions.

An additional bonus for the Light Blues was the return of Dean Shiels to action as a 75th minute substitute.

A one-minute silence in memory of the Glasgow Helicopter Tragedy was impeccably observed prior to kick-off.

Rangers started the game in determined fashion – and made an early breakthrough when Lee Wallace moved effortlessly down the left before curling a cross into the middle that was headed home by Clark.

The visitors were far from disheartened by the loss of the early goal – and snatched an equaliser out of the blue on 24 minutes when Gavin Swankie rifled the ball home.

The scores were level for just two minutes – as Clark swooped again from the edge of the area to find the net with a deflected shot from a Wallace layoff.

Lee Wallace claimed the third goal in 37 minutes when he rounded off a fine solo run with a low 20-yard right-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Clark completed a first-half hat-trick before the interval when he coolly slotted the ball home after Ian Black had struck the crossbar.

Midway through the second half Clark netted his fourth to make it 5-1, stabbing the ball home from close range.

And five minutes later it was the half-dozen when Templeton was upended by Ross Campbell for a clear penalty, with McCulloch making no mistake from the spot.
