Having made no fewer than six changes to the team which lost out to Cork City on Friday night, Derry City crashed to their third consecutive league defeat when losing in Drogheda on Monday night.

And while team boss Peter Hutton held his hands up suggesting he had made too many changes, it was clear that the Candystripes are now focusing on the FAI Cup campaign.

Having failed to score in his last three league games – all ending in 1-0 defeats – Hutton was far from happy with the performance, suggesting that some of his players felt they just had to turn-up to win the game.

“It was a very disappointing performance from us, a far cry from the standard we have set ourselves over recent weeks,” he said.

“We got what we deserved, absolutey nothing.Friday night’s FAI Cup game is now our biggest challenge of the season.”

Drogheda’s Cathal Brady broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute after Gary O’Neill and Shane Grimes had combined to set him up.

And while Derry did have chances to restore equality, Drogheda keeper Michael Schlingermann made a superb save to deny Rory Patterson midway through the second half.
