Sandaza will hit form insists Rangers teammate Templeton

Rangers winger David Templeton believes striker Francisco Sandaza just needs a goal to kick-start his Ibrox career.

The Spaniard has only netted once this season, although he has been restricted to 11 appearances because of the broken cheekbone he suffered against Motherwell in September.

Sandaza, whose goal came in a 5-1 win over East Stirlingshire in August, missed a glorious chance in this week’s 3-1 victory over Annan when he headed Templeton’s corner down towards an open goal from four yards but saw it bounce off the artificial surface and up on to the bar.

Templeton said: “I thought he played well and obviously hit the bar. He was unlucky a few times

“I think he just needs that first goal for his confidence. You could see he was dying to get one but I’m sure it will come in time.

“Sometimes before you get it any kind of chance you want to shoot, maybe better options are on at times.

“But that’s just what happens when you are dying for a goal, especially as a striker, he wants to keep his place in the team and obviously a goal would help him with that.

“He is not the type to let it get to him, he just battles on and tries to get goals.”

Templeton struck twice against Annan while Robbie Crawford also netted with a confident first-time finish from 12 yards.

Rangers hope to have Lee McCulloch and Emilson Cribari available for Saturday’s visit of Elgin.
