Athletic 6-0)

St Patrick Athletic showed no mercy to Ballinamallard United as they cruised to a 5-0 victory in the second leg of their Setanta Sports Cup quarter-final.

It was smooth sailing for the SSE Airtricity League champions as Mark Quigley and Conan Byrne netted a brace each to send Whitey Anderson’s side crashing out of the competition.

Quigley was the playmaker supreme as he opened the scoring on 12 minutes with a lowly-drilled free-kick that Ballinamallard keeper Alvin Rouse could not get near to stopping.

The visitors just could not keep up with their hosts, who quickly built on their one-goal aggregate lead from the first leg with Byrne scoring their second of the night from close range

Unable to keep tabs on Quigley, Ballinamallard could only watch as the striker set up Byrne’s next goal with an excellent scooped pass over the head of defender Craig Hill.

Then just past the hour mark, Quigley got his second of the night when he coolly converted a drag back from substitute Chris Forrester. And Daryl Kavanagh wrapped it all up with a fifth.

Boasting a 6-0 aggregate victory over the two legs, St Pat’s will now be one of the favourites to lift the All-Ireland trophy for the first time in their history.
