Stephen Gordon enjoyed the perfect send off by hitting a last gasp equaliser against table-topping Linfield at Windsor Park.
Niall Currie’s team appeared to be heading for their 21st defeat of the campaign when the Blues roared into a 3-1 lead. But Ards had other ideas.
Jamie Mulgrew shot the Blues into the lead on 17 minutes, but a blunder by goalkeeper Johnny Tuffey handed Mark McClelland an equaliser.
Linfield’s Philip Lowry and Andy Waterworth then snapped up quickfire goals to ease their team ahead before David Armstrong pulled one back before the break.
Gordon, making his final appearance before returning to Glentoran following his loan deal, then popped up five minutes from time to turn the game on it’s head.
“He was only kin the squad because we were short of players,” said manager Niall Currie afterwards. “I asked Glentoran if I could use him and they give me permission. I’m delighted with this point. We must kick on from this at Glenavon next week.”
Ironically, it was Ards’ first point away from home in the current campaign.
