Stephen O’Flynn’s first half header proved enough to secure Institute’s second win of the season against the league’s basement side, Warrenpoint Town at the Riverside Stadium.

The ‘Stute striker rose highest to steer Declan McKeever’s pinpoint cross into the net three minutes before the interval - his third goal of the campaign - however, the Drumahoe men had to defend well to see off a late onslaught from the visitors who have yet to get off the mark.

The visitors enjoyed the best of the goalmouth action during the opening half hour with Padraig Smith proving to be Warrenpoint’s main attacking threat.

‘Stute’s first shot on target arrived on 41 minutes after Stephen Curry made a promising run towards goal before drilling his shot at the target and Martin Marron gathered easily.

One minute later and the hosts netted that vital breakthrough as McKeever delivered superbly towards O’Flynn deep inside the Warrenpoint penalty area and the Cork man steered his header into the far corner.

Paul Kee’s men held on, despite a brave effort in the final 10 minutes from Warrenpoint to register their first win in three attempts in the league campaign.
