Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton has again swooped into the transfer market to snap up Dundalk striker Tiarnan Mulvenna.

The 25-year-old is available for Tuesday’s Premiership clash against Glentoran at Mourneview Park after receiving international clearance.

Belfast-born Mulvenna has agreed an 18-month deal.

Hamilton said: “I’m delighted with his capture. A number of clubs down south were interested in signing him, while he was on the radar of Ballinamallard United.

“He has got a bit of pace which is something we have been lacking. He is young an versatile and will be a valuable asset to our club.”

With another new boy, Brian McCaul, back at the club – signed last week from Linfield – Hamilton is targeting three points from Tuesday’s game.

However, the player-boss will play no part due to suspension.

“It will not be easy, that’s for sure,” he added.

“Glentoran had a great result against Portadown in the cup at the weekend – hopefully they used up a lot of energy to achieve that.

“The boys showed last season they could beat Glentoran – it may have been a long time coming, but they showed what they are all about.

“We hadn’t beaten them for something like 11 or 12 years, so it was good to get that monkey off our backs.

“If we can go out and perform the way we did recently against Cliftonville, we can get something out of the game. We must show the same application and dedication.

“I don’t think that Glentoran have as much in reserve as Cliftonville in terms of the strength of their squad. I thought we did really well to get back to 2-2 after being two goals down. At that stage, I thought we could go on and win the game.

“But they made a few changes and that’s what done us in the end, we just couldn’t handle their pace.”
