New manager Warren Feeney enjoyed a winning start as Linfield earned a 2-1 win against B36 Torshavn in the first leg of their Europa League, first qualifying round tie in the Faroe Islands.

Michael Carvill’s 88th-minute goal sealed a late win for the Blues at the Torsvollur Stadium.

A first half goal from Jamie Mulgrew was cancelled out by Adeshina Lawal but Carvill’s late strike put the Blues ahead in the tie.

“What a tremendous result for us and I thought it was fully deserved,” said Feeney – who savoured his first competitive match in charge.

“Jamie Mulgrew and Michael Carvill both took their goals superbly well but it was an excellent team performance. It now sets us up well for the second leg next week but we need to make sure that we finish the job.

“My managerial career at Linfield is now up and running and I am loving every minute of it.”
