Ballinamallard United manager Whitey Anderson is banking on striker Richard Lecky to shoot his team back to winning ways.
The Ducks have lost their last three games which makes Saturday’s clash against Ards at Ferney Park a ‘must-win’ situation.
Lecky is gradually gaining match fitness after injury and Anderson insists the former Portadown man will be a massive asset when he starts firing on all cylinders.
“He played for 75 minutes in last week’s 2-0 defeat at Ballymena – he is gradually getting there,” said Anderson.
“In fact, he was unlucky to see an effort hit the post – had it gone in, it could have been so different.
“Even United’s Lee Doherty said we were unfortunate. Hopefully, Richard will get the full 90 minutes this week. He’ll be a big asset – he is mobile and has a big physical presence. He can also take the pressure off the other strikers. It’s a matter of building up his fitness.”
Anderson insists his boys will be primed for another big test against a team that is fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.
“It’s a must win game for us – and, I suppose Ards will be saying the same,” he added.
“Our recent results have been disappointing, but I really can’t fault the boys. They have been putting in the effort, but not getting their rewards.
“Ards beat us convincingly enough up at their place earlier this season, so we are under no illusions how tough it will be.
“Perhaps, they have been leaking more goals than they would have liked in recent matches. But they are also capable of putting the ball in the net at the other end.
“Every point is now vital in this league. We are hovering in a little group just above the bottom three (Coleraine, Warrenpoint and Ards).”
