FOOTBALL: Casement seals Windsor move
LINFIELD made their second high-profile transfer window swoop with the signing of defender Chris Casement.
Casement (22) has joined the Blues on loan from Scottish club Dundee to the end of the season.
The Northern Ireland international's arrival comes hot on the heels of striker Peter Thompson.
Casement had previously been with English clubs Ipswich Town and Wycombe, but is now set for a stint in the Carling Premiership.
Last night Linfield boss David Jeffrey hailed the signing.
"I'm delighted to have signed Chris Casement coming to Linfield. He's an Under 21 international central defender who has a lot of experience," he said.
"Chris actually made contact with us. He contacted Alfie Wylie who knows him very well from the Under 21 squad. He wanted to get out on loan for a spell and he very much wanted to come and play for Linfield."
The six foot towering defender will bolster Linfield's defence at what is a critical time of the season.
Jeffrey has resorted to the experienced if somewhat ageing central duo of Noel Bailie and William Murphy in the club's last two fixtures, but will now have fresh competition for a starting slot.
Casement made his Northern Ireland senior debut in last summer's international friendly with Italy.
"Chris is a young centre back with a great footballing CV and great potential," Jeffrey added.
"This arrangement gives us an ideal opportunity to look at him and for him to have a look at us. Obviously, he plays in a position where we're trying to strengthen as best as possible and certainly his signing adds to the competition levels within the squad."
