FOOTBALL: IFA crisis hits rugby and GAA

THE continuing crisis at the Irish Football Association has now impacted on funding plans for both rugby and GAA.

A total of 110m has been earmarked for Windsor Park, GAA's Casement Park and Ulster Rugby's Ravenhill stadia.

However, Sports Minister Nelson McCausland has insisted no government funding will be distributed until the ongoing debacle surrounding the running of the IFA is solved.

McCausland has consistently stated that no public money would be handed over while Association president Raymond kennedy and his deputy David Martin remained in power.

Martin resigned from his post this week, with Kennedy set to stand down next month.

"How the money is spent on the three sports – each of them has an impact on the others," Mr McCausland said.

"It is absolutely essential that the IFA are in the right shape to take this forward. There is a great deal of urgency about the work that has to be done by the IFA."
