FOOTBALL: No Leeds move for Feeney
NORTHERN Ireland striker's Warren Feeney expected move to Leeds United has fallen through.
The east Belfast man had been to join the Elland Road club, but for resons not specified, the proposed transfer has collapsed.
Scottish Premier League side Hearts and Grimsby have also shown interest in the Cardiff City forward.
Grimsby boss Mike Newell - who Feeney worked under at Luton Town - held talks with Feeney but admitted he couldn't compete financially with Leeds United.
The 28-year-old had a medical with Leeds on Monday, and is was believed Feeney favoured Simon Grayson's men over other other interested clubs.
"I did have a number of conversations with Warren and he was interested in a move here - he was seriously considering it," Newell said.
"But when Leeds showed an interest it was hard for us to compete with their financial resources. Had we been able to get to their level we would have had a good chance of signing Warren, but ultimately it was difficult for us to match them."
Feeney joined Cardiff in 2007 but spent last season on loan at Dundee United where he scored six goals in 25 appearances.
