FOOTBALL: Worthington looks forward to negotiations

NORTHERN Ireland's schedule of fixtures in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign will be finalised at a meeting in Belgrade on March 8.

Nigel Worthington's side are in Group C along with world champions Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Estonia and the Brian Kerr managed Faroe Islands.

"I'm going to work out a format that I think would suit us before we go to the meeting," said Worthington.

"You've got to be on your toes during the negotiations and remain strong."

He added: "Obviously I'll be keeping my cards close to my chest as I don't want to give anything away before the meeting.

"I really enjoyed the last fixture meeting - it was the first time I'd been involved and it was a fantastic experience.

"I will have a clear idea in my mind of what I would like when I go there but so will the five other managers in the group."

Worthington admitted that it is a tough group but said he was pleased with the draw.

Northern Ireland's preparations for the qualifiers begin with a friendly against Albania in Tirana on 3 March.
