FOOTBALL: Worthy keeps eye on Patterson
COLERAINE striker Rory Patterson is hoping to impress Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington.
The in-form forward impressed in Wednesday's 2-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup semi final win over Dungannon Swifts at the Oval.
Patterson grabbed the Bannsiders' opener while Stephen Carson guaranteed a final place against Glentoran on Saturday, March 27.
Worthington was an interested spectator at the freezing east Belfast venue and, with 27 goals in the locker this season, Patterson can consider himself a genuine candidate.
Northern Ireland travel to Albania for a friendly international on March 3.
"It's not something that I think about – but if the chance came I would jump at it," claimed Patterson, who will move to Glentoran at the end of the season.
"I know Nigel was here. All I can keep doing is scoring goals for Coleraine.
"It would be an honour to represent Northern Ireland.
"For now I'll just concentrate on our next game at the weekend."
Worthington admitted: "We'll continue to monitor Rory.
"I thought he did well in the first half – and he got his goal.
"We didn't see much of him in the second half, but overall he did well."
Bannsiders boss David Platt is now hoping to tread the steps of his uncle – former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Jim Platt – who managed the team the only time they lifted the League Cup back in 1988.
"It would be a great achievement – and wonderful for the family," said Platt.
"But we have other immediate matters to attend to, starting with Saturday's league game against Glenavon.
"But this is a massive victory for Coleraine Football Club and we now have a final to look forward to next month."
