Ballinderry Shamrocks advanced to the semi-finals of the All-Ireland club championship with a 3-0 to 2-7 victory over Kingdom Kerry Gaels but only after surviving a brilliant second half comeback from the London based side.

The Derry and Ulster champions took control of the game early on, with Collie Devlin’s ninth minute goal helping them into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead.

Despite playing against the breeze in the opening period, Ballinderry were dominant and lead 1-5 to 0-1 at the break.

It didn’t take long for them to extend this after the restart either, as Daniel McKinless’ goal made it 2-6 to 0-1.

When Devlin bagged his second goal to make it 3-6 to 0-4 midway through the second half there looked to be no way back for Kingdom Kerry Gaels, who were down to 14 men by this stage, but remarkably they fought their way back into the game to set up a nervy finish.

Stephen Brown’s goal gave them hope and then a penalty from Kyle Holland made it 3-7 to 2-7 with just six minutes remaining.

Ballinderry kept their opponents scoreless for the final few minutes and managed two more points of their own.

They face Leinster champions St. Vincent’s in the All-Ireland semi-final next February.

Castlebar Mitchels and Dr Crokes meet in the other semi-final.
