Ulster Bank GAA Force, a community initiative which supports local GAA clubs, has announced St Ergnat’s GAC Moneyglass, Co Antrim as the winner of a support package worth £4,400.
Over 500 clubs across the island of Ireland entered the competition with Erin’s Own GAA Club in Waterford announced as the winner of this year’s top prize with a support package worth £22,000 to refurbish and upgrade their facilities. Last year the top prize went to St Joseph’s GFC Ederney.
St Ergnat’s is one of four runners-up, one from each province. The three other clubs named as runners-up are Clooney Quin GAA Club in Clare, Two Mile House GAA Club in Kildare and Eire Og GAA Club in Roscommon.
St Ergnat’s has over 300 members with over half being under 16 and is supported by a dedicated band of volunteers. The support package will help the club spruce up its clubhouse and enhance its facilities both for club members and the wider local community.
Speaking at the announcement of the Ulster Bank GAA Force winners, Gerard Weir, Chairman of St Ergnat’s said: “We are delighted to receive this boost from Ulster Bank as our club is very much a part of our rural community providing structured activities for our large youth base. This is a welcome boost to all our volunteers who work hard at maintaining our facilities taking on many extra responsibilities from general admin to seeking much needed sponsorship.”
