Tyrone’s unbeaten start to the NFL Division 1 came to an end on Sunday when defending champions Cork finished with six points to spare over the Red Hand county in Omagh.

This was the home side’s first competitive defeat of 2013 following their Dr McKenna Cup success.

Conor Counihan’s charges led by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break and pulled away in the second half to record a second successive win in the space of a week.

“Cork came out today with a point to prove and they certainly did that. We know that sort of performance will not be good enough from us this season in Division One,” said Tyrone midfielder Sean Cavanagh.

“It was a bit of shock to the system but we will have to get our act together before we go into the lions den next time out against Dublin.”

Donegal bounced back from last week’s defeat at the hands of Tyrone to ease past Kerry, winning with 10 points to spare.

Michael Murphy starred for Donegal, hitting 1-5 in an impressive individual performance. The result means Kerry remain without any points after four games in the top division, and they are now two points adrift at the bottom of the table.

On Saturday night, Down earned their first points of the campaign with an excellent two-point defeat of Mayo.

Having suffered three successive defeats in Division I of the Allianz League, the Mourne men produced their best to see off the Westerners in a scrappy game in bad conditions.
