GOLF: Rory happy with Monty selection
RORY McIlroy is sure he can help Europe regain the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor next month.
European captain Colin Montgomerie named his team at the weekend.
And Monty handed Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington and Edoardo Molinari wildcard places for the tournament.
Monty's picks were always going to cause a stir efter he left out Paul Casey and Justin Rose, a two-time winner on the PGA tour this year.
But McIlroy believes Monty has picked the right team to beat Corey Pavin's US visitors.
"Colin had a very tough job. He had five guys to choose from and whatever three he chose was going to be the right decision.
"Paul Casey and Justin Rose are very unlucky to miss out but Europe still have an exceptionally strong team.
"I feel quite confident that we are going to get the Ryder Cup back off the Americans," he added.
The 21-year-old, who is up to seventh in the world thanks in part to his victory at the Quail Hollow Championship, will be looking to keep up his recent good form when he takes part in this weeks Deutsche Bank Championship.
The Holywood player will be looking to impress ahead of the Ryder Cup as he comes up against a large number of the USA Ryder Cup players in Boston.
Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Jim Furyk will all be out on the course looking to not only maintain their form, but also their interest in the ongoing FedEx Cup.
