Northern Ireland’s Grame McDowell and Rory McIlroy both said they would take the positives from a disappointing US Open to this week’s Irish Open in Fota Island, Cork.
McIlroy finished with a three-over par 73 in Sunday’s final round to leave him with a clubhouse total of six over at the event in Pinehurst which Martin Kaymer was poised to win.
McDowell shot a level-par 70 yesterday to finish seven over.
Both were expected to finish in the top 30.
McDowell said he would take the “positive vibes” from his weekend to Cork.
