Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth were paired in the final group for the third round of the Masters on Saturday.

Here, we look at how the battle played out on each hole at Augusta National.

st (Tea Olive), 445 yards, par four: Both players hit the fairway and found the green in regulation before two-putting for par, with McIlroy holing his second putt from six feet after misjudging the birdie attempt. (McIlroy -3, Spieth -4)

nd (Pink Dogwood), 575 yards, par five: McIlroy had to lay up after finding a bunker off the tee and missed from eight feet for birdie. Spieth just missed the fairway but found the green in two and two-putted for birdie. (McIlroy -3, Spieth -5)

rd (Flowering Peach), 350 yards, par four: Spieth looked in trouble with a wild drive into trees, but punched out to the back edge of the green and got up and down for par. McIlroy was unable to do the same after his approach from a fairway bunker span back off the green. (McIlroy -2, Spieth -5)

th (Flowering Crab Apple), 240 yards, par three: Both players saw their pulled tee shots bounce back off the grandstand to the left of the green and made the most of their good luck to save par. (McIlroy -2, Spieth -5)

th (Magnolia), 455 yards, par four: Spieth four-putted this green on Friday but had no such problems despite a poor approach leaving him 50 feet from the hole. McIlroy was close to holing from an almost identical position. (McIlroy -2, Spieth -5)

th (Juniper), 180 yards, par three: Spieth made hard work of two-putting from the back fringe, but McIlroy was unable to hole his birdie attempt from 25 feet. (McIlroy -2, Spieth -5)

th (Pampas), 450 yards, par four: Spieth drove into the trees and found a bunker with his recovery shot, eventually holing from five feet for bogey. McIlroy had the chance to gain ground but three-putted from 25 feet. (McIlroy -1, Spieth -4)

th (Yellow Jasmine), 570 yards, par five: McIlroy found another bunker off the tee and had to settle for par. Spieth, having hit a three wood off the tee, pitched to four feet and holed for birdie. (McIlroy -1, Spieth -5)

th (Carolina Cherry), 460 yards, par four: With the pin in the back left corner of the green, both players came up short with their approach shots and had to settle for par. (McIlroy -1, Spieth -5)

th (Camellia), 495 yards, par four: McIlroy brought back memories of his 2011 collapse by hooking into the trees, but at least only dropped one shot compared to a triple bogey four years ago. Spieth took an eternity over his second shot and eventually left his birdie putt short. (McIlroy EVS, Spieth -5)

th (White Dogwood), 505 yards, par four: After another pulled drive McIlroy attempted a risky recovery but found the water to double bogey. However, Spieth also took six after needing four to get down from short of the green. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -3)

th (Golden Bell), 155 yards, par three: Spieth regained his composure immediately and holed from 17 feet for birdie, before McIlroy missed from half the distance. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -4)

th (Azalea), 510 yards, par five: McIlroy drove into the trees and had to settle for a par five, with Spieth also making par after a poor pitch. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -4)

th (Chinese Fir), 440 yards, par four: The only hole on the course without a bunker and Spieth took advantage with a birdie from seven feet after McIlroy missed from outside. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -5)

th (Firethorn), 530 yards, par five: A visibly frustrated McIlroy was well wide with his birdie attempt but Spieth made no such mistake to extend his lead once more. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -6)

th (Redbud), 170 yards, par three: Spieth’s short game saved him again after missing the green, while McIlroy two-putted from long range. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -6)

th (Nandina), 440 yards, par four: This time there was no escape from Spieth after a wild drive into the trees. McIlroy missed another birdie putt. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -5)

th (Holly), 465 yards, par four: Another miss for McIlroy meant he had gone birdie-free for the first time in 81 major rounds, but Spieth drove into the trees again and three-putted for a double bogey. (McIlroy +2, Spieth -3)

Scores: McIlroy 77, Spieth 73
