Niall Gibbons, the CEO of Tourism Ireland has welcomed the news that the Irish Open will take place at Royal County Down in 2015 and at Lough Erne in 2017.
“It is wonderful news that the Irish Open will return to Northern Ireland in 2015 and again in 2017.
“The staging of the Irish Open at a world-renowned course like Royal County Down presents another wonderful opportunity for Tourism Ireland to showcase golf in Northern Ireland to prospective visitors and golfers around the world.
“We will be pulling out all the stops – in Great Britain, the US and in other important golf markets – to capitalise on the potential of this important sporting event.”
And Tourism Ireland is rolling out an extensive programme of promotions to boost the number of golf holidaymakers to Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland this year.
The organisation will have a presence at a number of high profile golf events and tournaments throughout 2014 – including the Toronto Star Golf Show, the BMW PGA Championship at the famous Wentworth Club in Surrey (in May), the Barclays in New Jersey and the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston (both in the autumn).
As well as at the US Masters in Augusta (in April). Key golf journalists will be invited to visit, to experience our fantastic golf for themselves; and ads will run in the US on the popular Golf Channel, online on golfchannel.com
