Graeme McDowell signed for a final round two under par 70 to finish tied for 10th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Bay Hill on Sunday.

McDowell’s challenge was derailed on Friday when he carded a five over 77, but a change of driver appeared to do the trick for the 2010 US Open champion who ended the tournament on six under par, seven shots behind winner, Matt Every.

McDowell is still searching for his best form in 2014 but has already picked up three top 10 finishes from just four stroke play starts.

On Saturday he produced a bogey five, five birdie round and was four under through 13 yesterday before dropping a shot at the par four 15th.

He bounced back with a birdie at the 16th but found the water at the par three 17th, winding up with a double-bogey before parring the 18th.

Reigning Masters champion Adam Scott blew his chance to defend his title as world number one as Every claimed his first PGA Tour title in a dramatic climax to the tournament.
