Next month’s four nations Under 21 tournament at Mossley Hockey Club will have an added attraction as the recently crowned Junior World Champions Germany will be on show.

It was already a mouth watering prospect having the German’s there but now as World Champions, tickets for the tournament will be expected to sell out fast.

It is hoped that Germany’s player of the tournament, Christopher Ruhr, and who also picked up the top goal scorer award, with 9 goals, will be on show.

England will also be playing at Mossley, but they produced a very disappointing performance in the Junior World Cup, only managing to finish in 14th position, after they went down 3-2 to Spain, in the classifications.

Scotland are hoping over the Irish Sea for the tournament and the players will still be contending for places on the Scottish Senior team that will play in the Commonwealth Games hosted in Scotland.

The Irish Under 21’s are in full preparation mode for the European B Division Championships later this year.

And Irish coach Jonny Caren recently added three Ulster players to his squad. Peter McKibben (Annadale), Johnny McKee (Banbridge) and Lisnagarvey’s Sean Murray, were all drafted into the squad.

Caren said: “We (Irish Hockey) are in a very good place at the moment, with some great players coming through the youth development programs in all provinces.

“The fact that I am able to add to the strength of the current squad with three very talented younger athletes who have the potential of another three to four years at this age group, bodes well in our development plan looking towards competing in European A division again.

“The upcoming Under 21 Interpros in Leinster is every athletes opportunity to impress and play their way into the squad, especially a week out from our Four Nations Tournament in Belfast.

“I will be looking for players who are in form to represent their country against the current Junior World Cup champions.”
