Ireland will play France on Thursday in the Champions Challenge crossovers after they defeated Japan 1-0 in their final pool game in Malaysia on Tuesday.
And the last time Ireland played France they served up a cracker, as they trailed the French 4-0 to win 6-4 and take seventh place in the World Hockey League.
But Ireland are a changed side since that last meeting, with several of the more senior and experienced players missing the trip to Malaysia.
Ireland finished in second place on three points piping Poland on goal difference after they crashed 8-3 to New Zealand.
If the Irish beat France they will meet either Korea or Japan in the semi-finals.
Commenting Irish Coach Craig Fulton said: “I am very proud of the team’s performance, we stuck to the game plan in what was a tough match, we created important chances and in the end we were able to execute to secure what was an important goal.”
Quarter final draw
New Zealand v Malaysia; Canada v Poland; Ireland v France; Korea v Japan.
