LURGAN COLLEGE 1 RAINEY ENDOWED 0
(aet, 60 mins 0-0)
Lurgan College lifted the Senior Schools Cup for the third time in four years after a dramatic 1-0 extra time win over Rainey Endowed in the final at Lisnagarvey on Wednesday.
Julie Morrow, who was later named player-of-the-match, hit the only goal of a tense game in the fifth minute of the first half of extra time.
Rainey felt a Lurgan player had struck the ball with her foot at the penalty corner which led to the goal but after a consultation between the umpires it was allowed to stand.
Lurgan had been on top for most of the game but Rainey defended heroically and went close on several occasions, notably in the first half when a Rachel Burns shot bounced off the upright to safety after a set piece.
