Top teams gear up for vital Friday night clash

Have your say

Friday night’s game between Harlequins II and their Randalstown counterparts at Deramore will go a long way towards deciding which team goes on to claim the Junior One title.

‘Quins currently hold a three point advantage going into the top of the table clash but Town have a game in hand so could draw level with a win.

Both teams continued their winning ways at the weekend with ‘Quins beating Ballymoney II 4-0 and ‘Town overcoming the Ulster Elks II 4-1.

But it was a much closer contest than the scoreline might suggest and home ‘keeper Claire Donald had several saves to make.

Megan Quinn scored the first goal for Randalstown which came from a pass by Grace- Louise Palmer to the flick spot where Megan slotted the ball coolly into the back of the net.

But the Jordanstown side drew level after some great saves from Donald as a quickly taken free went off a defender’s stick for an own goal.

Randalstown knew they had a battle on their hands but Rebecca Quinn squared the ball across the circle to Jayne McGrillen who took the opportunity to put her side back in the lead.

The hosts gained momentum winning a corner which was converted by Kerry Coulter with the aid of a deflection.

Then Jayne McGrillen got her name on the score sheet again after being set up by Joanna Dodds as she outwitted the Elks keeper to make it 4-1.

In the other games Pegasus II beat Queen’s II 2-0 at Upper Malone while Lurgan II were 1-0 winners at Victorians II and Lisnagarvey II crushed Armagh II 7-0 at Comber Road.
