It’s Swede dreams for Armagh ace Joe Beattie

Armagh’s Joe Beattie popped the bubbly after winning the Swedish Masters -- his third success on the Short Mat Players’ Tour.

The Ireland international followed up his victory in last season’s English Masters and then the UK Open, which he won earlier in this campaign, with a thrilling 10-7 triumph over fellow country man Mark Beattie in the final.

In fact, the tournament was dominated by Northern Ireland representatives as the Beatties -- no relation -- were joined by Cecil Dillon and Jal Richardson in the semi finals.

The new title holder, who picked up the £500 top prize, defeated his Armagh colleague Richardson 12-6, while Mark Beattie claimed a 12-8 victory over Dillon.

However, the West Down man gained some consolation by defeating Richardson to finish in the bronze medal position.

Armagh’s Lisa Douglas almost made it a double celebration, but she was beaten 16-7 by Sweden’s Dick Almen in the Plate final.

Next up on the Tour is the English Masters, staged at Bromsgrove on Saturday, February 1
