In advance of the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, an event which helped launch the career of Eddie Irvine, 21-year-old Jonny McMullan is the latest driver to be selected as Young Driver of the Month by Motorsport Ireland.
The Newtownabbey driver recently won the Holmpatrick Trophy at Mondello Park at the Leinster Trophy meeting and two weeks later driving a Formula Ford car as old as himself he finished second in the Martin Donnelly Trophy race at Kirkistown.
A former Northern Ireland Formula Ford Champion back in 2010, McMullan began his motorsport career in karting.
He is now a major contender for the Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy.
Next weekend will see him in action behind the wheel of his Ulster-built Mondiale at Brands Hatch in what is the Grand Prix event of Formula Ford racing.
The following week McMullan will contest the Walter Hayes Trophy at the legendary Silverstone circuit.
“I am delighted to have been selected by Motorsport Ireland and to win the award would mean so much,” said McMullan.
Next Wednesday, McMullan will leave for the Kent circuit to test on Thursday and Friday with racing on Saturday and Sunday as he takes another step up the motor racing ladder.
