Karola Bejenaru’s coach has labelled his pupil’s Co Dublin senior ladies singles title success at Carrickmines on Saturday as one of her greatest triumphs.
The 17 year-old Romanian-born Windsor player defeated Bulgarian Mariana Levova in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
Last month Karola was knocked out of Wimbledon qualifying in the first round at Roehampton.
But she has clearly learned from the experience as she has found a rich vein of form before she takes part in two ITF junior world ranking tournaments later in the month.
She will be returning to Dublin for the Donnybrook tournament and then it will be back to Windsor for the City of Belfast Championship.
“It was a great week for Karola and it is good for her confidence to have won the tournament.” said her coach Prezemek Stec.
“If anything her semi final win was even better than the final as she had lost to the same opponent easily in their last meeting.”
On Friday night the 17 year-old secured the biggest win of her short career at Carrickmines when she defeated top seed Rachael Dillon in straight sets to reach the decider.
