Kids enjoy ‘Search for a Star’ football coaching event

FORTY-EIGHT boys and girls from all over Northern Ireland were invited to take part in the Irish FA/adidas Search for a Star event on Sunday at Ashfield Boys’ High School, Belfast.

These children selected from the Irish FA’s Summer Soccer Schools programme where competing the chance to become a sponsored player and receive a year’s worth of Free Adidas training gear.

The players had to participate in a series of small-sided games and individual skill stations which challenged various technical aspects of their playing ability such as dribbling, turning, passing, shooting etc. The event which was supervised by the Irish FA’s Grassroots Team and very well supported by proud parents and family members witnessed some players of truly great potential.

However the stand out players and individual winners: U10 – Reece Byrne from Enniskillen; U12 – Matthew Irvine from Greenisland

Irish FA Head of Grassroots Football, Lee Carroll said: “This was the culmination of the Irish FA’s hugely successful Summer Soccer Schools programme and reward for all those children who won the right to be here on the day. The young players showed exceptional ability and really enjoyed the day.”

Congratulations are due not only to the winners, but to everyone selected to take part. The skills and talent on display were very impressive and special thanks must be expressed to the parents and families who brought the stars along and stayed to give their encouragement.
