Luke Wilton is Bristol-bound to face champ Haskins

Luke Wilton will face British Bantamweight champion Lee Haskins in Bristol on Saturday night after taking the fight at 24 hours notice.

East Belfast lad Wilton will go 10 rounds with switch-hitter Haskins and ‘Winky’ says he is looking forward to the challenge.

“I have nothing to lose. I am jumping up two weight divisions and have taken it at two days’ notice. I found out at about 9.30pm on Thursday night and I said ‘yes’ straight away.

“This is a great opportunity for me. I am live on Channel Five and I am up for it.

“I have been training away for a show at the Holiday Inn on March 21, so I am good to go,” he added.

Haskins is ranked four in the world by the WBC and 11 by the IBF – but Wilton is looking forward to the challenge.

“He is an awkward switch-hitter, who throws punches for all sorts of angles.

“It will be a good test for me and I am going in there to give it a real go.

“I am in a win, win situation and it would have been silly to turn the fight down,” he added.

The fight could have been for Haskins British title – but that fell through.

“The British Board of Control would not sanction the fight because I did not have a weight check last week.

“But I just want to show what I can do against Haskins.” he added.
