Marc McCullough has been passed fighting fit before he faces Martin Parlagi for the vacant WBO European featherweight title at the Waterfront Hall on Friday night.

McCullough – an employee with the maintenance team at Randox’s HQ outside Crumlin – has been given the once over by the medical and scientific team at Randox Health.

And McCullough says getting the examination has given him added belief.

“I’ve been training hard for this fight and focusing my mind and my body – to know that it is paying off is great! The check was so easy, but it has given me an indepth knowledge of what is going on under my own skin.

“What the check has done has given me the confidence, the belief that I really am fighting fit.

“There is always a small margin between success and failure in boxing, so the more information you get, the more confident you become,” he added.

And Randox Health GP Dr Alison Logan says McCullough is in peak physical condition.

“Marc has the blood pressure and pulse rate of an athlete, his cholesterol levels are normal and his muscle status is excellent.

“We wanted to make sure that his intensive exercise wasn’t having an adverse effect on his heart, because we have seen this in other sportsmen and women we have helped.

“Marc is in great shape for the fight and he has the heart for the battle,” she added.

And Shankill Road man McCullough says he is ready for whatever Parlagi throws at him.

“Fight night is nearly here and all the hard work I have been putting is about to pay off.

“I have waited a long time for a chance like this and I am ready to take it.

“ I know that my opponent is a very good boxer but no one is going to stop me getting my hands on that title. I can’t wait for Friday night!” stated a buoyant McCullough.

And Cyclone Promotions CEO Barry McGuigan is looking forward to the clash.

“The vacant WBO European Featherweight title is on the line and a top-15 World ranking awaits the winner.

“It is going to be a fantastic scrap and a career defining fight for both fighters.

“ We are all very confident Marc will win and win in style but it will be his toughest fight to date, no doubt about it.”
