Barry McGuigan believes Jamie Conlan deserves a shot at the British Super-flyweigh title.or
The Belfast fighter was in suberb form at the Waterfront Hall on June 20 as he defended his WBO European title in style by stopping Gabor Molnar in the third round.
Conlan - brother of Olympic bronze medal winner Michael - seems to be getting more snap in his punches and is now ranked in the top ten by the WBO.
A British title shot has been on the cards for a number of months but it seems British champion Paul Butler has been doing his best to avoid the Belfast man.
Butler has now gone on and won the IBF Bantamweight title - so Conlan should be in line for a shot at the British title.
And McGuigan says he believes Conlan is being mucked about.
“Jamie is knocking on the door for a British title. We are going to get the fight for him and make sure the British Board listen to us. Because it is nonsense and are not accepting it anymore.
“He is in line for a British title fight and we are going to push for September 6 and get the fight on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s World title fight against Kiko Martinez.
“We have a fight in mind and now it is just down to the board. You can’t do much more than what Jamie has done to date. He is now 12-0 and he has been number one contender for over a year.
“It is just not good enough for them to not to accept him for a British title fight,” added McGuigan who believes Conlan is good enough to win the British title.
