Michael Hoey shot an opening round 67 to leave the Northern Ireland star four shots off the lead on day one at the European Masters in Switzerland on Thursday.
Hoey, who missed the cut at last week’s Northern Ireland Open, hit five birdies at the picturesque Crans-sur-Sierre.
The Russian Open winner only dropped one shot as he made an impressive start to the event.
Darren Clarke was two under with a 69 with Ballyclare’s Gareth Maybin a shot further back after firing a 70.
India’s Anirban Lahiri was the leader following a brilliant 63 to go two clear of Tommy Fleetwood, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Irish Open champion Paul Casey.
