Ministerial approval for upgrade at Ravenhill

The sports minister has visited the redeveloped Ravenhill rugby stadium ahead of its official opening on Friday evening.

Praising all those involved in the £16.4million project, Carál Ní Chuilín said there would be many great occasions at the upgraded home of Ulster Rugby, just as there were in the past.

She said the new facilities should be a source of great pride, and added: “I cannot but admire this magnificent stadium and I thank all those who have helped this dream to become a reality.

“In recent years the Ulster Rugby team have been competing at the highest levels of the game within Europe and it is proper and fitting that they now have a stadium to match.”
