Mixed weekend for Wayne Boyd at Imola

Joy followed by disappointment for Wayne Boyd at Imola in Italy in round two of the European Le Mans Series.

Boyd was sensational in qualifying in only his second appearance for the Anglo American United Autosports Team putting one of the team’s Ligiers on pole position in LMP3.

However when it came his turn to take the wheel in the four hour race, his entire stint was under yellow flags and a safety car to eventually finish seventh.

“Everthing was going pretty well but there were a couple of issues and the race did not go quite to plan for our car. Unfortunately it goes like that sometimes, but we will come back stronger for the next race. From a personal point of view claiming pole position was fantastic,” commented Boyd.

Now the talented Ulster driver can only look forward to the next round in July at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Boyd with teammates Matt Bell and Mark Patterson they still remain second in the LMP3 points.

Meanwhile in the LMP2 class the Irish owned Murphy Prototypes Team saw their Nissan with drivers Sean Doyle, Patrick McClughan and Gary Findlay finish tenth overall.

The overall race win going to Pierre Thiriet, Matthias Beche and Ryo Hirakawa in their super quick Oreca Nissan.

The Tarmac Rally Organisers Association has announce that Clonakilty Blackpudding have agreed to remain on board as title sponsor for the Tarmac Championship for the 2017 season. This will be the fourth year that the Irish owned company will have been the title sponsor which has proven very successful to date.

The fifth round of the series takes place in Donegal from the 17th– 19th June.
