In spite of poor weather, Northern Ireland Beach Volleyball got off to a positive start at Portrush’s East Strand with the Ballymoney Blaze Club’s Open tournaments.

Local players David Park and Jeff Scott were at home and won the event, beating visitors Adrian Margol from Poland and his Portugese partner Ivo Teixeira in the final.

The matches had use of London 2012 posts and nets and beach volleyballs as part of London Legacy to Northern Ireland.

Scotland’s Beach circuit got off to a better start on 
Portobello Beach outside
 Edinburgh with kinder weather. Barry McGuigan and Graham Riddle beat
 Alessio D’Aquino and Joel Orsinger 21-12 21-9 in the men’s final and Gillian Lyall and Agata Zaremba won the Ladies final beating Michelle Patterson and Sue Kee 21-17 21-6.

Meanwhile south of the border in Skegness, the
English tournament saw Scottish Association 
President Melissa Coutts team up with former GB teammate Denise Austin to win the ladies title beating Laura Plonka and Katja Gless by 21-15, 22-20.

Trevisan and Grandolofo won the men’s final 2-0 against Krydzinski and Stroo.

Finally in Holland, 
Britain finished fifth in the first European Sitting 
Volleyball tournament of the season, raising their rankings up five places from last 
summer’s Paralympics in London.
