Citroen are desperate to win the fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship which gets under way on Friday in Argentina.

Having won the previous nine rounds in the South American country, win number one by Carlos Sainz and the remaining eight by Sebastien Loeb for them a lot is at stake. The mission to win rests with Ulsterman Kris Meeke who replaced the multi World Rally Champion in the French team.

Meeke says the latest test has restored his confidence and brought a performance breakthrough with the Citroen DS3 WRC.

Life at the top of rallying has been far from easy for Meeke, a sole podium placing on the first round in Monte Carlo with the following three rounds making mistakes and a major off in Portugal.

Little wonder that after that accident Meeke felt very low. “I needed a couple of weeks at home and away from everything, but once I had that I just could not wait to get back in the car. The priority was to get the confidence back.”

The latest test was carried out in Sardinia and as a result Meeke did find something and that is balance with the DS3.

On the local scene, on Saturday Magherafelt and District Motor Club stage the Sperrins Rally.
