Paul Corvan popped the bubbly after walking off with the top prize in the County Antrim Indoor Bowls Club’s Festive Triples tournament, sponsored by Super Seal Windows Limited (Antrim).
The Monaghan side, skipped by Corvan, produced a devastating spell on finals night to become only the second winners of this prestigious event.
Cookstown Parochial’s Colm McHugh was defending the title he paraded in the inaugural year, but he fell at the quarter finals stage, beaten 7-6 in a tense affair by Old Bleach’s Willie Fullerton.
In an equally intriguing clash, Corvan edged home by a similar score against 1st Ahoghill’s David Morrison.
Corvan was pushed to the limit by Fullerton in the semi final before claiming another nail-biting 7-6 victory.
In the other tie, James Gaston, form 1st Broughshane, was beaten 7-6 by Spa Golf Club’s Peter Christie.
Having emerged from two gruelling games, there was no stopping Corvan in the final, who cruised to a 9-2 success over Christie.
“The tournament, which attracted 80 triples, was another enormous success,” said County Antrim manager Rod Coleman.“We were delighted with the response and are indebted to our sponsors, Super Seal Windows, for their great financial backing.”
