Mark Allen cruises through second round Welsh Open test

Mark Allen made no mistake as the Northern Ireland player defetaed Thailand’s world ranked 101 Noppon Saengkham at Newport Centre at the BetVictor Welsh Open.

The Antrim left-hander nearly came a cropper in his first round match against rookie Sydney Wilson because he was a bit complacent.

But this time, there was no mistake as Allen, who lost the first frame on the black, hit back-to-back century breaks of 101 and 106 plus another 61 to send the man from the Far East home and set-up a possible meeting with world number 16 Ali Carter for a place in the quarter-finals.

And good performances in the three other big ranking tournaments - the China Open, PTC Grand Final and the Haikou World Open, the latter of which he is defending champion - will do nicely as he aims for another crack at winning the Big One, the BetFred World Championships at The Crucible, Sheffield, in April.
