Antrim’s Mark Allen crashed out of the Players’ Championship on Friday after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Gerard Greene.

Allen was hoping to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament but was knocked out after a tight battle in Preston.

The opening four frames were shared before Kent-based Northern Irishman Greene claimed the next two 70-39, 73-36.

Greene will now face John Higgins or Marco Fu in the semi-finals.

Allen had beaten Jamie Jones and Fergal O’Brien in earlier rounds and showed further signs of promise after reaching the semi-finals of the Haiko World Open in China earlier this month.
