Mark Allen hit the highest break of the Players’ Championship Grand Final to claim a 4-2 win over Jamie Jones on Wednesday.
The Antrim player made a superb start in the first-round game in Preston, with a break of 136 in the opening frame.
Welshman Jones hit back by winning the next two frames before Allen responded to regain the lead at 3-2.
But a determined Allen finished with a break of 107 to seal the win and set up a meeting with Fergal O’Brien or Michael Holt.
The 28-year-old from Northern Ireland has slipped down the world rankings this season, going from seventh to 15th.
However, Allen showed a return to form at the World Open title in China earlier this month by reaching the semi-finals.
Ronnie O’Sullivan eased through but defending champion Ding Junhui surrendered his title.
O’Sullivan, who saw off Scott Donaldson 4-0.
Yu beat Chinese compatriot Liang Wenbo 4-2, while Ryan Day defeated Stuart Bingham 4-3.
