Paul Canning toasts double success in National qualifiers

Paul Canning enjoyed double success in the South and East Belfast National qualifiers.

Representing Kinghan Church, Canning won both the triples and fours disciplines which guaranteed his place in next month’s showcase play-off at Shaws Bridge.

He will be joined by Noel Walls and Robin Beattie in both, with James Newell completing the fours line-up.

The singles was won by well-known East Belfast man JR Graham, from Glenburn Methodist, while Phyllis Newtown (Knock Methodist) triumphed in the ladies section.

The full list of qualifiers are: National Singles: JR Graham (Glenburn Methodist); Pairs: Alfie Ross, Gerry McTasney (Belmont); Triples: Noel Walls, Robin Beattie, Paul Canning (Kinghan Church); Fours: James Newell, Noel Walls, Robin Beattie, Paul Canning (Kinghan Church); Ladies Singles: Phyllis Newton (Knock Methodist); Pairs: Karen Spence, Irene Minnis (Knock Methodist); Over 55 Pairs: Robert Marshall, John Dunn (Ballylesson).

Meanwhile, Killyman Bowling Club are holding their annual pairs tournament in St Andrews Parish Hall, from Monday-Friday, March 10-14 inclusive.

Finals night is scheduled for Saturday, March 15.

Play commences at 6.45pm sharp each night with entry fee £5 per pair.

Finally, entries are still being accepted for the Clontibret Open Singles Tournament.
