Pegasus captain Sharon Moffett has given a ringing endorsement to new club coach Arlene Boyles.

Boyles has been named as the successor to Michelle Rainey who stepped down 10 days ago.

The former Ireland player will bring a vast amount of experience to the post having made 123 senior international appearances.

She was a one-club woman in her playing days and started a long career with the club when a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Boyles is now a member of national coach Darren Smith’s backroom team which will, by definition, limit her availability.

But she will be assisted by Ali McNeill, who was appointed as Rainey’s number two last season, and will fill the void when needed.

Boyles won every honour in the book during her playing days and will be hoping to add more trophies to the already bulging cabinet in her new role.

“Obviously we are very sad that Michelle has stepped down as she is a fantastic coach and we want to thnaks her for all the time and commitment she put in.” said Moffett.

“She led us to many great victories and we will always be thankful for that.

“We are delighted however that Arlene is going to be working with us next season.

“She has a presence that words cannot describe and so much knowledge to share.

“Some of us have had the pleasure of playing with her and we know the impact she can have.

“All the players will thrive on what she can bring to us and we are very excited about the new season starting.”

The enthusiasm certainly seems to be mutual and Boyles says she is looking forward to the challenge of coaching the club she holds in such affection.

“I am delighted to come on board with Ali, Pegasus is a very special club and we are looking forward to working together with this very talented group.” she said.

“I have Irish commitments but the committee and players understand this. All I ask when I coach is that the players give it 100 per cent at all times.

“With talking to a few of them over the past week, I know that exciting times lie ahead for the club.

“Michelle (Rainey) put down a fantastic work ethic and I am hoping we can take that and move it forward even more and I am really looking forward to the challenge.”
